The assistant winemaker of the Alto Maipo icon wine, Don Melchor, is characterized by his close leadership and great knowledge of winery work, which has allowed him to be part of
the planning and implementation of improvements in viña Concha y Toro.
An Agronomist graduated from Chile’s Universidad Católica with a major in winemaking, Tomás began his professional career in 2003, participating in vintages in California’s Napa
Valley (USA) and at Campo de Borja in Zaragoza (Spain). Upon his return to Chile, Tomás worked on the vinification of white, red and rosé wines at some of the country’s leading wineries, where he acquired extensive experience in winery processes and technical
vineyard management.
Tomás joined viña Almaviva in December 2012 and was later appointed Assistant Agricultural Manager. At Almaviva—a joint venture between renowned French winery Baron Philippe de Rothschild (Mouton Rothschild) and Viña Concha y Toro—Tomás made a major contribution to planning and implementing technical improvements in the vineyard and was responsible for managing the Puente Alto vineyard.
One of Tomás’ most outstanding qualities is his hands-on leadership style, which fosters teamwork and deep commitment in the workplaces he is part of. In early 2019, Tomás joined the Don Melchor team, working with legendary winemaker Enrique Tirado as the Assistant Winemaker for Don Melchor, supervising all processes in the winery where this icon Alto Maipo Cabernet Sauvignon is produced.
